Get ready to celebrate the beginning of a new year in the Sikh calendar! Last year at the Vaisakhi Festival, the streets of Surrey were filled with people. Starting at 128 Street and 85 Avenue again this year, you get to watch the parade while getting a taste of all kinds of free food, great music and Bhangra dancing. I know I’ll be there with a few friends. It’s definitely one of the most exciting events happening around town. Cross your fingers for a sunny day! The event is taking place on Saturday, April 7. Call the Festival Hotline if you want more information, 604-833-4550.

There is not much anyone can do when the weather isn’t ideal outside. Last Saturday, I decided to venture out and try something new. My boyfriend and I love dining out and trying new cuisines. Since it was pouring outside, we decided to go for something spicy that will warm us up: Indian food. We went to “Taste of Punjab” in Whalley, since it came recommended by an East Indian co-worker for its authentic flavours. I order a butter chicken dish with rice while my boyfriend decided to try one of the chef’s recommendations, an assortment of different Indian dishes that include chicken, lamb, and beef. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were more than enough. The atmosphere of the restaurant was excellent and I would definitely go back again. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys lots of flavour and spice in their food and is interested in trying something ethnic.

Dining tip: Stop by the Surrey Visitor Centre diagonally across the street and pick up 10% coupons for the restaurant.

On a boring Saturday I decided to take my little cousins to Bear Creek Park so they could enjoy a nice evening on the Bear Creek Park Train, little did I know what I was getting myself into. After purchasing our tickets, we were on our way on the “Haunted Forest Scream Train”, the Halloween theme for this month.

The train ride began passing through the Haunted Forest entrance, so far it was a nice calm almost scenic start to the ride. And then before I knew it I was screaming and jumping out of my seat, anticipating what was coming next. From the Castle of Doom to the grim graveyards you’ll be laughing and screaming the whole way through. And just a little tip for the brave adults who go on the ride, make sure you have a child to hold on to.

On a quiet weekday evening after work, I decided to take a trip to the local Bose's Corn Maze with a friend. The maze is split into two and each one supposedly takes about half an hour to do. Inside each maze is 5 numbered posts. We were both given a set of questions with multiple choice answers so when we reached these posts, we would know to turn left or right. The correct answers to these trivia questions were supposed to help us find our way around the maze.

The two corn mazes took us over an hour to go through. In the end, the corn cop came to give us a few hints on getting out. Overall, the trip was really fun, definitely something interesting to do on a boring evening. There are a few interesting tricks in the corn maze setup to confuse you, but you'll have to find out for yourself.

Tip: Never walk and look at your trivia sheet at the same time, you'll forget which direction you came from after a few turns.
