    CBC Radio "What's Happening"

Fridays at 5:50 pm Pacific time on CBC Radio "All Points West", Margaret McCormick, Director of Visitor Services & Sales at Tourism BC joins host Jo-Ann Roberts to chat about events and activities happening province wide. Here is this week's topic:

"Wet & Wild" Winter Caving at Horne Lake
Caving is something that one usually only considers during the summer time, but Vancouver Island operators have made it possible to experience “wet and wild” caving during the fall and winter months. And what better time to go than a weekend in November?

The fall and winter months offer a completely different experience in the underground world of caves. During the summer the caves are quiet and you can hear a pin drop. In the winter you can hear the roar of whitewater from the bottoms of the caves. After days of heavy rainfall, the roar can be so loud that visitors have to yell above it to be heard. Increased water levels allow cavers to experience the natural forces that helped form these caves.

Horne Lake Caverns and Teepee Adventure Camp, just north of Qualicum Beach (less than 1 hour from the Nanaimo ferry terminal) offer 3 hour “Wet and Wild” Caving adventure tours. This can be a great adventure for the entire family. Children 8 and up are welcome on the tours.

    See
    * Some of the most easily accessible and stunning caves in North America
*An underground waterfall (that you get to climb!)
*An underground river (that will most likely get you wet!)
    *Ancient fossils
    *Amazing crystal formations

And be prepared to get wet!

Check out their website to reserve your tour!
